I had interviewed a man who owned a buy- and-sell business. It was “ODIS JUNKSHOP” located at Brgy. J. P. Laurel, Bulan, Sorsogon, a place named for president Jose P. Laurel.

Mr. Abel Gordola was the manager of “ODIS JUNKSHOP”. His business was inherited from his father who died six (6) months ago. He said that his business started when fishing industry became low profitable that leads them to look for another business to gain extra income that can cover his expenses.

Now his business was still successful and still productive. He had ten (10) employees who travelled from far places to buy those recyclable materials. And he also said that because of his business, “Nakakatulong pa ako sa ating paligid!” 

According to him, sometimes he encountered problems such as the habitual request for advance payment of the employees and the unusual price decrease of the materials they buy. In order to solve these problems, he just simply put percent (%) to be removed from the salary of his employees. For the next problem he just simply pass it to the other buyer. 

I became curious on how Kuya Abel as a manager and I interviewed one of his employees. It was Kuya Jun, one of the employees in Odis Junkshop. He said “ Si Boss, napakabait niyan at napakadaling lapitan kapag nangangailangan kami ng pera.” I realized that Kuya Abel is not just a good and humble manager but also he is a very good friend to his employees.

Filipinos are known for having creative minds for managing any businesses. One of the common business is Buy and Sell or Junkshop. That’s why, through small things, we can earn money as a form of living. Therefore, we conclude that we must not estimate simple and small things, rather we must give importance to them because success usually begins in small things.
